A New Chapter in Detroit's Maritime Legacy
The Future
The revitalization of the historic Detroit Boathouse transforms a once exclusive private club into an inclusive public asset. It creates a vibrant community hub that celebrates Detroit's maritime heritage and supports youth development and recreation. The restoration provides a unique and accessible destination for community events, dining and leisure activities for Detroiters and all visitors to Belle Isle.
The new Detroit Boathouse is to become one of the city's most significant waterfront landmarks.
Empowering Detroit Youth
Solidify the future of the Detroit Community Sailing Center and Friends of Detroit Rowing. By providing modern facilities, we expand their capacity to teach water safety, teamwork, and athletic discipline to hundreds of city youth.
Core Objectives
Public Integration
Transform a formerly exclusive site into a public asset. The project will feature accessible spaces on Belle Isle, allowing the community to reconnect with the Great Lakes heritage.
Historic Preservation
Execute a meticulous restoration of the 120-year-old structure, reversing years of water damage and neglect to save a critical piece of Detroit's shoreline from demolition.
Sustainable Economic Model
Create a self-sustaining ecosystem where community-centric retail and event spaces provide the long-term funding necessary to maintain the structure and support non-profit programming.
