About Us
The team behind Stuart Pitman and the Detroit Boathouse restoration has been a part of a handful of important Detroit restoration projects on buildings which most have thought to be “beyond saving” or not “worth the effort”.
In 1992, far ahead of the wave of redevelopment in the city, restoration began of what had originally been the Jerome Remick Sheet Music Publishing Plant (1907) and is today the only surviving JL Hudson Music Store (1917). That project created the Library Lofts and Detroit’s first “legal” loft project.

In 2006, Detroit’s Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Memorial Hall was threatened with a wrecking ball after nearly 30 years sitting vacant. The building was constructed in 1901 as a meeting place for Union Civil War veterans. In the early 1940’s the “the castle” became the downtown branch of Detroit Parks and Recreation offices. Following a 3 year restoration, in 2015, the site became home to a media firm and 2 acclaimed restaurants and a popular event space.
